How to add Separate Meta Tags for Individual Posts

Previously I have written on "Why and How to use Meta tags for Search Engine Optimization in Blogger". Now through that method, you can although add meta tags for your entire blog, but not separately for each and every blog post. As you know, Google and other search engines now rank each page (article) separately, so it is very much needed to gain PageRanks for every post you write.

So follow this easy method, to add meta tags and keywords to each of your important post.
Log in to your Blogger.com account and go to "Layout" section.
Then click on "Edit HTML", and then back up your present template first.

Then in the first 10-20 lines, find this :
<head>
Now immediately after this code, add these lines:
<b:if cond='data:blog.url == "http://URL_OF_YOUR_NEW_POST.html"'>
<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="ENTER_KEYWORDS_SEPARATED_BY_COMMAS" />
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="INDEX,FOLLOW"/>
</b:if>
If you want you can add description and author meta tags too, simple add these two lines along with those above:
<META NAME="description" CONTENT="WRITE DESCRIPTION HERE" />
<META NAME="author" CONTENT="YOUR NAME" />

According to the instructions given in the blue lines, replace them with appropriate lines.

Hi Pankaj

Meta tags would not affect the loading speed so much.....

and you do not hav to use them for each and every post, but for those which you think are important !

Hi Pankaj

Welcome back, actually that's not at all a problem, you can check it here, that in Google search even titles from your blog are being displayed:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1B3GGGL_enIN287IN287&q=site%3Aetaxindia.org&btnG=Search

(Sitemaps and meta tags are just to make sure that your site is being well followed by search engines like Google...)

Hello pankaj

Only those titles are shown in google, which has been indexed by Google.
Now the frequency of indexing new posts depends on the popularity of the website/blog.
So getting new pages in Google searches is not so easy until and unless the blog is quite famous in google(acc to Google ranking system, the blog should have atleast PageRank 4 or 5, for quick indexing) presently your rank is 0-1.

Hi Divya,
In your blog you wrote:

meta NAME='ROBOTS' content='ALL'

What does ALL mean for the robots?

You don't actually need those tags though, most searchbots ignore tags like that.

Dude, meta tags are never missed by Google, and as the most preferred search engine is of course Google, so meta tags are important !

do you mind adding examples for each blue line for beginners............

Reply

April 12, 2009 11:30 PM delete

Hi Vikram,

The blue lines are themselves enough I guess,

For ex:
Instead of "ENTER_KEYWORDS_SEPARATED_BY_COMMAS",

use this for a "Bakery related blog"

<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="bakery, bread, cookies, sugar, jam, butter, cream........etc." />

If you are talking about only some of the pages, then use the method described above, replace the blue line from the second code with your keywords,

and if you want top add keywords to all your posts automatically, then read this post:

Hello Arte...

Remember to read this article too:
http://bloggerstop.net/2009/04/duplicate-meta-description-and-titles.html

Google may penalize blogs for duplicate meta tags, so it's important to solve that issue !

It is the url (address) of the post, for which you want to add meta tags.

Hi Divya,

Today it is snowing, so this is a good day to work on this hack. I have applied the dynamic metatag hack previously and since I can not paste it here (copy, paste disabled) I will send you my html code in an email.

Just want to make sure that before I add the coding for each post, that I remove the old coding and don't screw up my template.

Sai, I am finding you to be most helpful and am implementing this trick for posts i really like.

question:

do you add the whole first section above for each url? i can understand adding the url, but since i blog about american idol, most of my keywords are the same. do i need to add these to each individual url add?
also, i don't want the crawlers to think i am duplicating.

thanks! elizabeth

Well yeah, that's important that you should NOT use the same description tag for all your pages, use these tags for only those pages which are already famous or you think which are actually unique across the WWW and so readers will be impressed with that page.

I found the other code and now I see how the 'duplicate content' post gets in. I hope that things will soon get better cause it's really bad to see a post almost on first page but with wrong description.

Thanks for the awesome blog!

I added seperate meta tags for my newest post but when I share it on facebook via the fb button at the bottom of the post, the name and description that show up are the meta tags for the blog, not the individual post. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi again, Sai,

It's me, teecup. I checked Google webmaster tools today. I still have 11 posts bearing the duplicate meta tags from my home page. I don't know why only 11 of them have duplicate tags and why the rest of my blog posts didn't have any. Any idea?

Also... does the code above apply to separate blogger pages? I mean static pages on my blog (About me, Author, Contact form, etc.).

I have around 60 blog posts so adding meta tags and descriptions to each post sounds really exhausting

Thanks for being so helpful. This is the second of your blog posts that I've bookmarked.
